Revolutionizing Management of Industrial and Technology Data Centers.
Latin America is experiencing significant growth in hyperscale data center facilities and associated services. Querétaro, a highly dynamic state near Mexico City, has been selected to develop this important industry. Our client— an aligned data center company and a leading global lease provider— is committed to continuing their investment in Mexico. This is one of various Data Center projects in Central Mexico, where AECOM has provided different services for this kind of facilities (Design, Construction Management, Health and Safety, Environmental Services)
What was AECOM’s role?
AECOM has two important roles in this project. First, we provide Construction Management services for the building deployment, leading the customer’s general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and service providers while coordinating the schedule and construction activities for civil, electromechanical, and support systems. Additionally, our SHE team (Safety, Health, and Environmental) provides safety guidelines focused on the well-being of the construction personnel. To achieve this, we have tailored a safety plan based on AECOM’s recognized safety methodology, assisting general contractors with the implementation of their own safety protocols and training.
This is a greenfield project with a scalable design. Currently, we are managing Phase I, which includes a colocation building with 24 MW of capacity, administrative offices, and storage areas. However, the total capacity could grow three to four times, depending on the final configuration. Various disciplines are involved, including civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical engineering, along with support systems such as access control, fire detection and suppression, and automation and control, among others. The scope not only covers construction activities but also commissioning (following a five-step DC methodology), acting as customer representatives before stakeholders.
